Kaymer to be a Part of Volvo World Match Play
German golfer Martin Kaymer will be a part of a star studded field at the upcoming Volvo World Match Play Championships that is scheduled to take place in Spain during the 17th and the 20th of May, 2012. In spite of the fact that he has been having an extremely unpleasant time on the European Tour this year, the 27 year old former world number one is still quietly confident about his chances at winning the Volvo World Match Play Championships. Kaymer, for the first time in his career, made the half way cut at the Masters this year and in spite of not having won any titles so far in 2012, the lanky German is confident that he is on the right track and the elusive title is coming in the next few months.
The event will take place at the scenic Finca Cortesin in Spain, and Martin Kaymer will be a part of the field along with 23 other golfers that includes the who’s who of the world of golf. Speaking of his return to the Finca Cortesin, Kaymer could not hide his excitement and stated that the venue as well as the hotel is absolutely amazing and being a limited field match play event, it is one of those events that stands out in his schedule and he is looking forward to a memorable week.
Among the players that Kaymer will line up against, are the Open Champion of 2011 Darren Clarke, Retief Goosen, the winner of the US Open two times as well as Paul Lawrie, the Open Champion on 1999.
But Martin Kaymer is not afraid of the fellow golfers who will take the field with him and he knows if he gets a stroke of luck going his way, he can take home his first crown of the season.

KAYMER BACK TO HIS BEST
Martin Kaymer’s 3 shot victory at the recently concluded HSBC Champions Tournament has thrown a spanner in the works of Mcilroy’s plans of becoming the World number 1. Earlier seen as a natural winner of the spot at the top, Mcilroy’s path has become much harder by the recent upsurge in form of the 26yr old golfer from Germany, Martin Kaymer.
He produced one of the most brilliant final round performances of the season by birdying 9 of the final 12 holes for a round of 63 at the Sheshan Club recently. The sterling performance at the end of the tournament was enough to propel him to the top of the leader board above Freddie Jacobson of Sweden. You can check out Martin Kaymer’s statistics for all four rounds on the official golf channel website.
Mcilroy became the World Number 2 overtaking Lee Westwood recently though he still remains significantly adrift of current World Number 1 Luke Donald. Donald’s continued good form makes it hard for the others to budge him from the top spot but continued top performances from the likes of Mcilroy and Kaymer gives them a fighting chance and means that Donald has to be on his toes at all times.
Martin Kaymer won the US PGA Championship last year and also won the season long race to Dubai. Such continued good performances propelled him briefly to the spot in the rankings. But with changes in his swing and the pressures of being the highest ranked in the player, his form and subsequently his ranking saw a dip. By his own admission, he struggled to handle the pressure of being the favorite in a tournament and not just him but the other around him struggled to handle the intense scrutiny that comes with being the World Number 1.
Things have taken an upward turn for Martin Kaymer though with his swing change finally starting to pay off as evident by his recent performances which have been befitting a player striving to be the best in the world. The recent win in Shanghai lifted Kaymer to the number 4 spot in the rankings and coupled with Donald’s withdrawal from the tournament, gives him a fighting chance to beat Donald in the season end Race to Dubai. Kaymer has recently stated that he’s now in a better position to fight for and hold onto the top spot with his past experience and new found maturity helping him on.
KAYMER HOPES RORY IS READY
Former world number one of golf Martin Kaymer has expressed his hope that new world number one Rory McIlroy has what it takes to live up to the billing as the best golfer in the world and has the ammunition to overcome the challenges that the top spot throws at him. In one instance, it would be appropriate to say that McIlroy would be better suited if he listens to the warnings and advice of the former world number one, who knows all about what it takes to get to the top and remain at the top.
Kaymer became the top golfer in the world when he won the Quarter Final round of his match at the World Golf Championships: Accenture Match Play Championships last year to become only the second ever German to achieve the feat. Although Martin Kaymer did not hold on to the title for too long, losing in the final of the event to the eventual world number one Luke Donald, he still managed to achieve a feat that most people from his country thought was impossible.
Currently sitting at number four in the Official World Golf Rankings or the OWGR, Kaymer also knows that if he manages to pull together a string of good performances from now to the end of the season, he might as well replace Rory McIlroy as the number one golfer in the world. He also acknowledged the fact that being the top golfer in the world has an entirely different meaning.
Martin Kaymer also forewarned McIlroy that being number one in the world has a lot of difficulties in terms of the expectations of the people and oneself and he will have to watch behind his back every time and a single poor result in a tournament could change everything.
